GATLINBURG SKIING

Located minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area features 3 lifts and 8 trails for Skiing, Snow Boarding and Tubing.  A full service ski resort, Ober Gatlinburg features a ski school, ski and snowboard rentals.  Typically open from December to March, the elevation and snow making equipment provides the opportunity for visitors to ski when the temperatures and snowfall don't necessarily cooperate with the Downtown Gatlinburg Weather.

How to get there:

Option 1:  From Downtown Gatlinburg, take ski mountain road until it ends at the Ober Gatlinburg parking lot.  It's about a 5-10 minute drive.

Option 2:  The Aerial Tramway to Ober Gatlinburg departs every 30 minutes from the center of town.  Enjoy the views and a special ride on your way to Ober.

Most visitors packing their ski’s and coming to Gatlinburg typically end up at Ober Gatlinburg.  However, most visitors are unaware of a another ski area just over the mountains in North Carolina called Cataloochee

It's about 55 miles from Gatlinburg with convenient access from highway 321 to Interstate 40, it’s a pretty easy drive.  Certainly a good alternative if you have already spent a few days at Ober Gatlinburg.  Definitely not as convenient, but a great alternative to Ober Gatlinburg.  For those who don’t ski or don’t want to ski, Cataloochee has a dedicated tubing hill with a lift for the tubes and riders.
